Death to Plastic Take Out Containers

February 26, 2010

Dear PECI’ers,

Green@PECI recently conducted a waste audit for our offices and found some interesting details about our trash.  Each year PECI throws away an estimated 460 pounds of take out containers including plastic clamshells and other items.  This is something that we have control over!

In response, Green@PECI has decided to provide reusable pyrex containers for you to take to the carts or to use for your leftovers at a restaurant.  These will be located on the second shelf of the middle cabinet in the 7th floor kitchen. Each container has a PECI label on it.  We ask that you use the container only while at work. For those with dish duty each week, please try to put the containers back in the same spot so folks know where to find them.

There will be containers placed in each kitchen throughout both buildings.  Please try to return the containers to the same kitchen that you got them from.

Cart season is almost here, so please do your part and remember to take a reusable container with you to lunch.  Let’s see if we can reduce those 460 pounds down to zero!

Onwards.
